FDA Bans Production and Distribution of Powdered Gloves

FDA logoEffective January 19th, 2017, the FDA has banned medical supply manufacturers, salesmen, and distributors from producing and distributing powdered gloves of any material. This is due to evidence that using a powdered patient examination glove can pose a serious risk to the patient “including airway and wound inflammation, post-surgical adhesions and allergic reactions” (for more information, click here).

This is only the second medical device that the FDA has banned, the first ban occurring in 1983 when they banned prosthetic hair fibers.
